Stefan Joseph's profile

Martyn Joseph | Tires Rushing by in the Rain

I was approached by Martyn to design his latest album 'Tires Rushing by in the Rain', an album of Bruce Springsteen songs ranging from lesser known tracks, to stripped back takes on classics.

The idea behind the design came from a photo taken in Martyn's hometown of Cardiff. It represents the colour and lights of a rainy city in motion, as well as relevance to the title in the form of tyre marks.

(Tyre is spelt 'TIRE' in the title in order to stay true to Bruce Springsteen's title, as well as the American spelling of the word)

From the very start of the project, Martyn wanted to ensure the imagery remain ambiguous so as not to derive from the title.
The album is accompanied by the sleeve notes of Dave Marsh, a close associate of Bruce himself and an iconic US music writer and critic.

The outcome is a gritty, yet stylish blend of colours, imagery and typography to capture the essence of the songs and their subject matters.
The album can be purchased at the link below, and at various retailers worldwide.

Thanks for viewing.
